During our class discussion, we watched and analysed Pink's video "fucking perfect" uses the narrative to engage the audience. Below is the video to the track:
Narrative
* She is reflecting her own childhood
* Pink herself was her audience at that age
* The teddy bear connotes the inner girl, childhood
* The narrative does not come as a surprise as their is consistency through-out all her videos with a similar narrative outcome.
Engaging Audience
* The audience can relate to her and the events that go on in the video
* Parts of the video are hard hitting, such as when she is self harming
* There is the shock factor
* Sex scene at the beginning - may be unexpected?
Our task was then to choose another video of our choice that could relate to Pink and her style of videos. I chose Christina Aguilera's song, 'Hurt'. The videos is below:
Narrative
* Looking back on her childhood in contrast with present day
* Necklace is shown both in the clips from her childhood then when she's older
* Narrative is about losing someone you have lost in your life, in this case her father
Engaging Audience
* Interesting activities going on in the narrative as it is based in a circus
* Audience can very much relate to what Christina Aguilera is singing about
I feel that the thing that links both these videos the most is that they are both written so that the audience can relate to the narrative, whether it be for being bullied or losing someone you love.
